Characteristics of the Green Leafhopper:
-
Moves extremely fast
-
Highly resistant to pesticides
-
Causes damage in both nymph and adult stages
-
Lays eggs inside the tender shoot tips (newly sprouted shoots)
-
Adapts to and damages many different plant species, making it difficult to completely eradicate
They mainly damage young shoots and leaves, from tender leaves to mature but still soft leaves.
They pierce and suck nutrients from leaf tissues, causing leaves to curl, edges to contract, and even drop, leading to the “witch’s broom” phenomenon on durian trees.
Additionally, they create mechanical wounds, which are the main entry points for fungi and bacteria, thereby transmitting diseases to crops.

Notes when spraying to control leafhoppers:
-
Spray early in the morning, when it’s cool, as this is the main period of leafhopper activity.
-
Focus on rotating active ingredients instead of increasing the dosage, as higher doses will lead to higher costs but lower effectiveness.
-
Spray to prevent leafhoppers when the shoot tips have just emerged from the sheath.
Effective prevention solution: Metrozin 120g – Insecticide F35.25WP
Mode of action: Contact, stomach poison, translaminar, and systemic effects. This allows the product to kill both nymph and adult leafhoppers, helping save on spraying labor and costs while maintaining high efficiency. ✅
